Notice to med stores on sale of anti-cold drugs for kids
Doctors caution against buying fixed drug combinations (FDC) over the counter for children below four years. The CDSCO mandates clear labelling against the use of FDC drugs in young children. FDC cough syrup, commonly known as Maxtra, contains chlorpheniramine maleate and phenylephrine. There have been cases of adverse reactions like convulsion and rapid heart rate in children under two years. The Bengal Chemists’ and Druggists’ Association issues a notice to its members to not sell this cough syrup to children below four years.
