MC to refurbish old bricked sewer lines at Panj Peer Road
The civic authorities in Ludhiana are planning to revamp an old sewer line that runs under Pau Road towards Panj Peer Road. They need the approval of the finance and contracts committee before moving ahead with the project, and they are waiting for that approval. The old sewer line was constructed with bricks some 3035 years ago, and it reaches the Panj Peer Road upon passing through the entire city. The officials have selected the sewer stretch starting from Veterinary Hospital in Gadvasu up to Panj Peer Road. This sewer line then crosses Hambran Road before ending at the sewage treatment plant Stp Sitauted at Balloke. The officials claimed they had conducted a survey where they found this old sewer line weak at this stretch and it required revamp to prevent it from collapsing and causing any major problems. The total cost of this project has been estimated at Rs 7321 crore, and it has been sent to Chandigarh for evaluation. The officials claimed that the project will be funded by Ludhiana Smart City Limited, but the work will be carried out by the municipal corporation. Trenchless technology to lay sewer lines will be used, and this work will be done by trenchless technology where they need not dig the roads for laying sewer lines rather secondary
