Kolkata’s lungs breathe sigh of relief after dawn-to-noon drive cleans up Maidan litter
The Maidan area in Kolkata has finally been cleared of litter after a collaborative effort by the state Public Works Department (PWD) and citizens. PWD deployed additional manpower to sweep the waste, clearing nearly 90% of waste paper, plastic, and styrofoam that had been dumped over the past five days. The PWD plans to gradually increase the workforce to conduct cleanliness drives more efficiently and may seek assistance from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) for garbage collection in the future. The KMC already has infrastructure in place for waste removal from Maidan and is monitoring the situation.
