Darshan Puttannaiah returns to India, says he will contest assembly polls
Darshan Puttannaiah, a farmer leader from Mandya, returned to India from a trip abroad on Friday, and said he would contest the next assembly elections. He visited the Chowdaiah memorial in Hollu Village in Mandya Taluk, along with workers of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS). Later, he visited the agitating farmers at Sir M. V. S. Statue in Mandya where the farmers have been holding a protest for 46 days. Darshan addressed the workers, saying that though the farmers of Mandya are fighting the state government, the government has not met their demands. This, he said, shows the irresponsibility of the Bommai government. Darshan had unsuccessfully contested from the Melkote Assembly Segment in the 2018 elections. He said he will run again according to him, the KRRS will field two candidates in Mandya District, with Madhuchandan contesting from the Mandya Assembly Constituency, and he will not go back to abroad anymore. His move comes amidst former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy continuing his pancharatna yatra in the Srirangapatna Assembly Constituency.
