Chetan Verma elected new DBA prez
Ludhiana Chetan Verma was elected as president of the district bar association (DBA) after the elections for various posts were held here on Friday. Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) Advocate Lalita Jain informed that Verma defeated his rival, N.K. Chhibber, by 296 votes and was elected as president of the lawyers’ body. She added that Gurinder Singh Sodhi had the third highest votes for the post. The ARO further informed that Karan Singh was elected as vicepresident after he defeated his rival, Harjot Singh Harikay, by 255 votes. At the time of the filing of this report, the counting of votes for the posts of secretary, joint secretary, and finance secretary was still on. Election authorities said that counting of votes for six posts of executive members would be done on Saturday. They added that of the 2730 voters in the list 2250 cast their votes on Friday. ARO said that whereas three candidates were contesting elections for president’s post two were in fray for vicepresident three for secretary four for joint secretary two for finance secretary and ten candidates for the six posts of executive members.
