Unique hero stone from Hoysala period found in Mandya villageThis is a story about a unique hero stone with sati inscription and sculpture from the Hoysala period that was found in a mandya village. The experts believe that this is the first time that inscriptions and sculptures have been found together where the husband who was an officer at the Hoysala kingdom died after killing his wife with a dragger. The field work was done by a team comprising a project director from the Centre of Excellence for Studies in Classical Kannada, a senior research fellow, an office superintendent, and an associate fellow. The exploration was done as per the information given by a archaeologist from the Rakshit Ap Laboratory. The hero stone belongs to Veeraballala II of the Hoysala dynasty and according to the inscription plate, Masanayya the son of Ramajeeya a resident of Dasara Shettihalli and a member of the Vaishya merchant clan stabbed his wife to death before breathing his last. He was wounded in a war and this inscription sculpture was engraved during the reign of Hoysala ruler Veerabalala II whose empire spread throughout south India.
