Students of Brahmanand College visit NSIThe Kanpur students visited the Sugar Institute in Kanpur and attended an interactive session with the director and other faculty members. They were briefed about the various courses that the institute offers, as well as the eligibility requirements for enrollment. The sugar industry is not just about producing sugar, and now there are many products that have helped to make it viable. The industry is exploring all possibilities to enhance production of bioenergy, biochemicals, and other bioproducts. The graduate and post-graduate students from chemistry backgrounds can expect a bright career in the sugar industry. Paroha, a professor of biochemistry, discussed the contribution of the sugar industry to the success of the ethanol blending programme. She highlighted various value-added products that have been developed from the waste of molasses-based ethanol units. Narendra Mohan, the director of the National Sugar Institute, highlighted the diversifications made by the Indian sugar industry in recent years. This has created ample job opportunities for engineers, technologists, and chemists.
