‘Prospective match’ turns out to be fraudster, dupes woman of ₹26L
A woman in Ludhiana trusted a fake CBI inspector and ended up losing almost 26 lakh rupees. The woman met the accused and both showed interest in getting married after winning her confidence. The accused made her transfer the money on the pretext of his treatment. The woman was identified as Taistes Mathur of Brs Nagar. She had lodged a complaint with the police on September 29. The woman alleged that she had uploaded her profile on a matrimonial website she came across a profile of Vipan Kumar who claimed to be an inspector with the Central Bureau of Investigation CBI. They both liked each other's profiles and started talking to each other. They even chatted over video calls later they both agreed to tie the knot. The woman alleged that on June 29 she received a call from Vipan who stated that he had gone to West Bengal for some operation during which he suffered bullet injuries. Vipan said he needed money for his treatment and also stated that he would return the money once he gets discharged from the hospital. She believed him and transferred Rs 2593 lakh into the bank account provided by Vipan in different instalments.
