PCS officer arrested for taking bribesA Punjab vigilance bureau arrested a Punjab civil services officer, Narinder Singh Dhaliwal, for allegedly collecting bribes from transporters. The bureau found that Dhaliwal was allegedly indulging in collecting bribes through some private persons from different transporters on monthly basis at Ludhiana on pretext of not issuing challans against their vehicles. The complainant, Satnam Singh Dhawan of Mankawal village in Ludhiana district, had accused the RTA of collecting bribes and had even sent video clips of Punjab Home Guards and volunteer Bahadar Singh to the helpline number. The probe established that Dhaliwal used to collect bribe money on a monthly basis and in the month of December he had received bribe money of Rs 4 lakh out of which he used Rs 170 lakh for himself and remaining Rs 230 lakh was handed over to Bahadar Singh. The Phg volunteer claimed that being a subordinate employee of the RTA he only followed the orders and he could produce bribe money of Rs 230 lakh. An FIR was registered against Dhaliwal and others under sections 7 7a and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy at the vigilance bureau police station in Ludhiana.
