Noida demolishes 50 farmhouses on Yamuna floodplains, more to follow
The Noida Authority in India has bulldozed 50 illegal farmhouses on the Yamuna floodplains in its first anti-encroachment drive after recent floods. The farmhouses, which covered several acres, had concrete structures and were used for commercial activities. The floods highlighted the need to demolish the farmhouses, with an aerial survey identifying the illegally-constructed properties. The Noida Authority plans to launch a large-scale campaign to demolish more illegal farmhouses in the future and has warned owners of legal action if they continue construction. Permanent constructions on the floodplains are prohibited.
