NH-209 stretch passing through Chamarajanagar is in dire straitsA long stretch of the national highway 209 in Mysore district has been left in a terrible state due to neglect, with potholes and holes everywhere. The central government has approved a Rs. 2400 crore project to upgrade the entire 170 kilometer stretch from Dindigul to Bengaluru, but work on the stretch in question has not yet begun. The authorities have also expanded the Bengalurukanakapura road into a four-lane highway, but the 67 kilometer stretch through Chamarajanagar with key towns such as Kollegal and Mamballi, along the way, is still not upgraded. The upgrade also entails construction of bypass roads to these major towns, extending to a total length of 42 kilometers. Work on the project has been scheduled to be completed in two years, but work on the stretch in Chamarajanagar has been discontinued.
