NGT wants transport dept to make dustbins mandatory 
A state-level meeting will be convened with various departments to discuss ways to reduce road traffic congestion and waste. The road transport officials were not present in the meeting, and the proceedings of the meeting were sent to the concerned officials "for immediate action soon." Adi said there is a need for stern action against rule violators for chewing tobacco smoking and spitting on roads, and instructed department officials to give power to the conductors of the public transport buses to fine rules violators during transit. Also, at bus terminals, toilets in bus terminals should be clean, and officials should ensure the toilets are maintained properly. Finally, Adi has issued strict directions to the civic authorities to achieve 100% segregation of wastage in 15 days, if anyone fails to fall in line they will be fined heavily and officials will be held responsible during the quarterly appraisal of performance.
