Mixed reaction from Kolkata sex workers to SC verdict
The recent Supreme Court verdict on sex workers has generated mixed reactions among women in Bengal's red light areas and the NGOs working there. While the 50,000 members of Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (DMSC) across Bengal and other NGOs, including Apne Aap Women Worldwide, are celebrating the verdict that asks police to treat sex workers with dignity, some social workers fear that it might not bring about a sea change in the fate of women in this profession.
