Material recovery facility for 51 villages commissioned in Karnataka
The mangaluru dakshina kannada zilla panchayat's first material recovery facility (mrf) was commissioned on Thursday. The new mrf will be an ideal solution to the garbage issues that villages in the district are facing, according to Minister of Energy Sunil Kumar. Waste management has been a major issue that results in public places becoming black spots of garbage, the central government found this a major issue and chalked out plans to set up mrf units. Dry waste collected from villages is separated and recycled, and the unit also provides employment for youth from villages, students, and the public. This will help reduce waste generation at the source. Opponents of the mrf units say that a unit has been functioning in karkala near Minister Kumar's house without any problems for the locals. The state's first mrf for rural Karnataka has been operating since August last year in the Nitte gram panchayat limits.
