Paddy prices have gone up in the market this year, due to good harvests. The price of a common variety of paddy has increased to Rs 2400-Rs2500 per quintal, while the price of jyothi variety of paddy has increased from Rs 2200 last year to Rs 2800-Rs3200 per quintal. Paddy is grown on more than 90000 hectares in Mysuru and on 23000 hectares in Chamrajnagar. The Union government has hiked the minimum support price for kharif crops by 49 for the 2022-23 crop year for paddy, the msp is being increased by Rs 100 to Rs 2040 per quintal, and the state government is also providing incentives up to Rs 500 per quintal to encourage farmers to bring more area under cultivation. Most paddy growers in the region are preferring to sell their produce to millers and traders as the district administration is yet to open paddy procurement centres. After visiting their fields, farmers are getting a better price. Farmers said that “rice millers and traders are directly procuring paddy from farmers from their fields leaving little scope for inconvenience or exploitation this year.” After offering Rs 2400 per quintal for RNR 64
