Congress fields Lingayats in 10 out of 18 seats in Belagavi 
Out of the 18 assembly constituencies in the district, the Congress party has given ticket to Lingayat candidates in 10 segments. More interestingly, six of them belong to the Panchamasali community. The movement led by Basava Jaya Mrutyunjay Swami of Kudala Sangama, for the grouping of Panchamasalis, a sub-sect of the Lingayats, in the OBC '2A' category, had been a huge success in the district a couple of months ago.
