City teen girl held hostage, assaulted by friend in LucknowA young woman from Kanpur, India, has accused a Muslim man of luring her to Lucknow and holding her hostage for 25 days. The woman has alleged that she was forced to convert to Islam and when she refused, she was beaten and threatened that she would be burnt alive. The man, identified as Shahnawaz, had befriended her through their common friend. On January 3, he attempted to kill her by pouring kerosene oil on her. The girl somehow alerted her family members about her plight, and they reached Lucknow. They brought her to Kanpur, where she was admitted to a private nursing home. Later, the girl's family members lodged a complaint with the Gujaini police. The police reached the hospital and initiated an investigation by recording the statement of the girl.
