Bengali community conducts Saraswati pujaThe city of Kanpur celebrated the Hindu goddess Saraswati's birthday on Thursday. The festival is also known as Basant Panchami and marks the beginning of spring. Kanpur residents started organizing the festival about seven years ago and it has become a regular event at the apartment complex where Dr. DB Roy Chowdhury lives. During the puja ceremony, devotees chanted mantras and blew conch shells. Children later placed their books in front of the goddess to receive her blessings. Later in the evening, a cultural program was held by the women and children of the society.
