28-year-old Dhakuria ophthalmologist dies of dengue, family donates body
A 28-year-old doctor in Kolkata died from dengue after battling the infection for three days. Debadyuti Chatterjee had a kidney transplant in 2013 and had developed co-morbidities, including diabetes. Chatterjee had been monitoring his platelet count, but was admitted to the hospital when it dropped to a dangerously low level. Despite efforts to save him, Chatterjee's condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to multi-organ failure. His family donated his body, and his corneas were banked. Chatterjee's colleagues described him as dedicated and full of energy. The community is concerned as there are many confirmed dengue cases in the area.
